Holistic Care is a community based organization formed in 2005 by Mrs. Chrissie Hamuza, while she was working as a nurse at Queen Elizabeth’s Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi.

One afternoon in 2005 she went to “Chatha“ Village in the rural parts of Blantyre to visit a colleague who was ill. Upon her visit she was shock to see the lack of basic health care services in the marginalized community. This was her call to action that drove her to set up Holistic Care together with 3 other individuals. Through the guide of the local chief of the community, they formed a village development committee with the following objective areas:

  • Early childhood development (Holistic Care Nursery School for orphans and vulnerable children)

  • Chronically ill, elderly and widows program (Home based care and visits)

  • Youth Development
